Island Loud is my first magazine I have created using Photoshop and
InDesign. I personally took the pictures and wrote the articles inside.
The cover is a picture of my dog, Samantha, who is a Chesapeake Bay
Retriever. Inside the magazine, I created the tide chart based on actual
times and lunar charts pertaining to April, 2013. The idea Island Loud
is an actual brand my family intends to establish. My brother, Zack
Williams, who is featured inside, is a fashion designer at the Art
Institute of Pittsburgh. In a few years he intends to create a fashion
line called Island Loud. As for me, with a major in Graphic Design, I
intend to create his logo as well as any published materials such as
magazines and ads. Through this project, I was able to experiment with
the tools and options available on Photoshop and InDesign.
Journey Point is a fake company we created to illustrate our mastery in
InDesign and Photoshop. Journey Point is an adventure center with
lodging open to college students across western North Carolina. After
taking the photos, we edited them to our liking and added them to
various forms of advertisement. My portion was to complete the Brochure
as well as the Style Guide. My group created a podcast, a movie, and a
website. With this project I learned the importance of design and
consistency. I kept in mind the analogy, C.R.A.P. (contrast, repetition,
alignment, and proximity) The actually design, portrayed in the style
guide was geared towards a younger audience, college students. The
colors blue, orange, and brown represent tranquility, energy, and
nature. These colors express our intent to re-establish a love for
nature in young college students.
